Code of Conduct

The West Michigan Fancy Rat Association (WMFRA) is committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive community for all members, exhibitors, volunteers, vendors, and guests. By participating in WMFRA activities, events, and online spaces, individuals agree to uphold the following standards of conduct.

Respect and Inclusion

Members and participants shall treat one another with courtesy, respect, and professionalism. Harassment, discrimination, bullying, intimidation, or hateful behavior based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic will not be tolerated.

Sportsmanship

WMFRA encourages friendly competition and constructive learning. Participants are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, respect judges' decisions, and interact with fellow exhibitors in a positive and supportive manner.

Animal Welfare

The health, safety, and welfare of rats must always be the highest priority. Participants shall provide humane care, appropriate housing, nutrition, veterinary attention when necessary, and safe handling practices for all animals in their care.

Any form of neglect, abuse, intentional harm, or inhumane treatment of animals is grounds for immediate removal from WMFRA activities and may be reported to appropriate authorities when warranted.

Ethical Breeding and Representation

Members are encouraged to promote responsible and ethical breeding practices that prioritize temperament, health, and welfare. Individuals shall represent their animals honestly and refrain from knowingly providing false or misleading information regarding lineage, health, or exhibition records.

Event Conduct

Participants shall comply with all event rules, venue policies, and instructions provided by WMFRA organizers and officials. Disruptive behavior, unsafe conduct, theft, vandalism, or actions that interfere with the enjoyment or safety of others may result in removal from an event.

Online Community Standards

WMFRA-sponsored online spaces are intended to encourage education, discussion, and community building. Members should communicate respectfully, avoid personal attacks, and engage in disagreements constructively.

Reporting Concerns

Members are encouraged to report concerns regarding violations of this Code of Conduct to WMFRA leadership. Reports will be reviewed fairly and confidentially to the extent possible.

Enforcement

WMFRA reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this Code of Conduct. Actions may include warnings, removal from events, suspension of membership privileges, or permanent exclusion from WMFRA activities.

Our Commitment

WMFRA exists to celebrate fancy rats, support responsible ownership, and build a strong community of enthusiasts. We ask all participants to contribute to an environment that is welcoming, educational, safe, and enjoyable for both people and animals.
